Phoenix read I Ain't Gonna Paint No More!

 

This morning Phoenix and I read Ain't Gonna Paint no More by Karen Beaumont and colorful illustrations by David Catrow :) Phoenix stared at me while I read it like the words were facinating. We read it twice and could have gone a third round!

The Little Critter series: Just Me and My Mom by Mercer Mayer

 

As a writer, whenever Phoenix naps I try to grab some writing time into my day.  I popped into a Starbucks today and got an hours worth of research and writing done for my new novel Quiet, the second book of the Careful, Quiet, Invisible series. When Phoenix woke up I had his bottle ready and a book. We read Just Me and My Mom by Mercer Mayer. I'm getting into the Little Critter series, the stories follow Little Critter while he goes through simple daily activites and adventures and always learns a lesson about 'growing up' during the day. Little Critter experiences new things, like a trip to the city with Mom, he also experiences things he forgot to do and things he does well.

The great thing I'm finding about the iPad is that I can have these apps ready and books there on the spot to keep Phoenix happy and learning while we are shuffling around the city.

Extra fun: In the app Just Me and My Mom Little Critter has a friend, a frog, and throughout the book you can tap the frog whenever you see him and at the end you can see your points and if you found him every time.

The Little Critter apps are put out by Oceanhouse Media and they do GREAT apps: you can read it yourself, have it read on auto play or the app will read it to you. I think it's best to read it yourself but it's nice there are options too. I like the sounds, the sound of dishes clinking appears when Little Critter is putting them away in the sink, are creative and a fun realistic element.

Phoenix reads a There's a Wocket in my Pocket by Dr. Seuss

We read this one ALOT!! It's a fun one to read to your wee one because the rhymes are silly and fun to say. The illustrations are humorous too. We like the board book size so Phoenix can better hold the book as we read and turn pages. Reading this with enthusiasm is key because it's a high energy read.

My favorite rhyme is: Sometimes I am quite CERTAIN there's a JERTAIN in the CURTAIN.

I like how the ryhming words are in capital letters.

Phoenix's Dr. Seuss onesie! He wore it while we read Green Eggs and Ham.

LUSH favorites for Moms to savor!

Moms you deserve it! Some YOU time!

 

 

I love pampering myself with LUSH products, I love their Angels on Bare Skin cleanser and recently I've been trying out their hair products. Here are some of my latest and body adventures with LUSH.

Last night I tried the Seanik solid shampoo and this was my first time using a solid shampoo and I liked it, it lathered very quickly in my hand and made great suds for my hair. I have LONG hair and I could go from root to tip with a few drags back and forth of the solid shampoo on my palm.

I also used the Big Solid Conditioner and for me this was harder to lather, but maybe it's because it was the first time the bar was being used. I was able to get enough lather to cover my hair but I still ached to poor some of my own bottle conditioner in too. Using just this based on my first try would be tough but I'm not giving up on it and will be using it again during my next showers over the next month because the bar is fat and wide and it will last.

LUSH has just launched some intriguing hair treatments and scalp treatments. I recently tried their Superbalm, I love the lavender smell too. Put on the scalp of hair, wait 20 mins and wash.

My #NewHairResolutions is to keep my hair long and healthy despite Phoenix always grabbing it :)

 

 

 

During Phoenix's bath last night I used a piece of the FUN blue bath bar (chamomile and lavender) mixed with Johnson's Baby Bath Head to Toe Baby Wash, it was a VERY bubbly time! :)

Also if you only have a few minutes try one of LUSH's face masks, they are AMAZING! You will become addicted to their masks!

Give yourself some YOU time to beautify, it's not about giving yourself a makeover, it's about giving some love to your naturally beautiful self.

Take ten minutes to read to your baby

Be sure to read to your babies this weekend. It only involves about ten minutes to create a special fun time with your baby, you'll be bound to share some giggles and smiles during it. Here's Phoenix enjoying a reading session today!

Maintance for the hair: scalp treatments

Trying out LUSH cosmetics Superbalm scalp treatment tonight. It helps prevent flakes and restores your scalp, which is good for your hair. How your hair looks is reflected by the condition of your scalp. In the winter my scalp gets dry and I'm looking forward to using this treatment tonight. Also LUSH's ROOTS treatment is also getting lots of love out there. This weekend I'll be sharing the LUSH goodies I got today for the hair and face :) LOOK OUT it's Mom pamper time!

Playtime is growing time for your baby or toddler

Phoenix has been burping himself the past few days, we are pretty happy about that. :) That's collectively 30 minutes or more of added 'writing my novel time' each day for me...well, maybe hehe I wish...

Phoenix has been playing really well with his new jumperoo! I put a blanket in the back to give his back and head extra support.

He loves jumping on my legs and he is really anxious to sit and loves to be pulled up to sit. I love how the jumperoo inspires Phoenix to grab the toys attached to it and I get excited watching him discover the way the toys work, and his arms push his body up and down and his legs jump around.

I hang Phoenix's develpmental toys from his jumperoo and bouncer. We love this developmental elephant toy by Eric Carl, and we also have the Lamaze Freddy the Firefly.

In the morning before we read and while we wake up I let Phoenix play with his Baby Einstein Count and Compose Piano, and he loves to hit the keys, usually I get to hear a good concert too! :)

Even if your budget doesn't allow developmental toys (I wasn't raised on these luxeries) provide your child with books and soft stuffed animals or toys, and even plastic cups or basic blocks will allow your child to grab and grow. I show Phoenix how to hit the piano keys just like I showed him how to turn the pages of a book.

Hitting the pages of a book with their little hand will inspire them to turn the pages soon! The more you show your child how, the sooner they will feel inspired to tr, and express themselves along the way.


Here's Phoenix at the library laptime and some tummy time earlier this week. Although, I wish the library laptime involved more books instead of so many songs, and encouraged the reading aspect more but we go because it's another experience for Phoenix. The songs are cute for the babies to hear but I wish there was more ABC's sung or counting, something more than tick tock, tick, tock I hear the coo coo clock..coo coo.
